Just some of the things I need to get off my chest.
simple explaination on how to zip wallpapers
Published on June 12, 2007 By mschleisner In Skinning

I guess some of my wallpapers are looking funny when I upload them and I don't know how to zip them in a winzip file. I was told my uploads need to be converted to jpgs. Thought that is what they are when I sent them. Guess thats why some have not made it to my site. http://mschleisner.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx

Thanks to anyone who can give a simple answer to an old woman who loves to take pictures. Thanks

For starters the 'wallpaper' gallery is for wallpapers, not odd-proportioned photographs.  The images need to be a wallpaper/desktop proportion...eg one of the most common is 1024x768 pixels.

General happy-snap photographs of your holidays, etc should be uploaded to your 'photo gallery' on your personal page, where not wallpapers at all...

I left you a message on one of your Forrest Walls.....hope that will help you...

You can use a zip program such as Win Zip. After you make your wall just open Win Zip or what ever zip program you have. Click on Add new or make new file and navigate to your wallpaper file and click on it. your wallpaper should now be added to your zip program. You can add a .bmp to your zip but you have to have a jpg for your screen shot..You can also add to your zip file by dragging your file from windows explorer.Hope this helps

Whew! I saw the title and thought my wife had joined up..............

Standard sizes (horizontal pixels x vertical pixels)
800x600, 1024x768, 1600x1200 most common, these are 4:3 ratio

1280x1024 (bastard size) the developer of which should be stripped naked covered with honey and staked out over an ant bed.......

1440x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1200 these are common widescreen sizes

There are others, but theses are by far the most common. I'd suggest providing 1920x1200, 1600x1200 & one of the little bastards for each wall to make everyone happy. It's ALWAYS better to reduce from a larger size than to "blow up" a smaller size because you'll lose definition. Do your previews in either 1024x768 or 800x600.

To zip files in XP, Right click on the file you want to zip and choose "Send To" > Compressed (zipped) Folder"

To unzip, double click on the file and drag out (or in) what you want.

Jafo: are you being rude? I admit a couple of my photos are of my grandbaby but everything else is scenery of Florida and I must say quite good. Some pictures are from me traveling to other places. I know many downloads of my pictures are from people who enjoy things like Flamingos, the ocean, sunsets, animals at Busch Gardens and roller coasters as well as winter pictures I took in Wisconsin this past winter on vacation. I have friends who take pictures for me close up of animals at Busch Gardens who work there. I also live near the Gulf of Mexico so I take great shots of the water, sunsets, boats. If you think people don't like these things I guess there would be no downloads of these things, right? I downloaded these types of pictures myself in the past. Generally you are the one who won't post my photos. I have noticed this, yet others who are (admin.) have posted my photos. I just want to create wallpapers that people enjoy and do them right. If you have a personal issue with what I post, and it is valid, no problem. I have my own websites to offer these photos. I paid good money to be here and expect to be treated as a customer. There are some problems with some of the photos and how I downloaded them so I am working on fixing the problem. I am very new at this type of thing and don't think what you said was helpful or nice. I wish to thank Fairyy~, skinhit, murex, and Lantec for their help and information.   why your comment and attitude? I am doing the best I can for a newby at this.

mschleisner ...the wallpaper gallery is for wallpapers, nothing else.

Yes, photographs can work as wallpapers, but as with any graphic medium not all work as well as others.

One definite reason for rejections will be when the image is NOT in desktop/screen resolution, eg, undersquare...that means taller than it is wide.  No computer screen is in that proportion, so neither should any wallpaper upload be.

This applies to anyone/everyone just the same, so it is not 'rudeness', just reality/restrictions of the gallery.

When it comes to subject matter, it is a reality that truly personal photographs will only appeal to the uploader.  Sites such as Deviantart.com have plenty of photographs of 'my pet fido' which generally hold no public appeal [as wallpapers] at all.

At this stage, on Wincustomize.com we have an option to relocate 'less successful' uploads to a person's 'Personal Page', however in the case of many people's photograph uploads [in particular] the ideal option would be to be able to relocate the uploads to one's 'Photo Gallery' which even by its very name is a more appropriate destination......where odd-proportioned photographs/images would not matter as they were not trying to be wallpapers.

There IS no 'attitude' in my comments....only an attempt to answer your query ...to help a 'newby at this' ....

O.K. I guess I understand but I paid for this site myself just for the wallpapers when I started. So I think if you were to ask people why they paid for one program or another they would state that they wanted unlimited downloads of the best wallpapers anywhere. Myself it was for the cursorxp program then I fell in love with windowblinds, and this is another I use all the time. So now that I have asked, I think we should post a question, What made you join wincustomize in the first place? I think you will find they joined for one of these programs, and the wallpapers are the greatest around the net.

I have to agree with Jafo here, travel photos are NOT wallpapers (especially when they aren't even in wallpaper res). Perhaps if they were resized to a wallpaper resolution and submitted as a pack (instead of flooding the gallery with a bunch of them) then maybe they would qualify.

Like I said in one of your other threads...use the subscriber photo album, it's for photos. I've made good use of mine [link].

and the wallpapers are the greatest around the net.

You can thank moderation for that fact. If you look at a site like Deviantart.com where there is basically no moderation you'll easily appreciate the difference. You have to wade through lots of trash to find that one or two worthwhile gems.

If your interested in photography, I'd suggest http://www.thephotoforum.com/ You'll find a lot of people willing to give tips and advice. You can post your entire photo library if you wish. From what I've seen you've got a "good eye" for picture content, so you might want to work on the technical aspects.

Jafo: are you being rude?

He's mot being rude. Really. I think it's his keyboard.

I have to say, it's times like this and comments like this that I regret having an email that forbids me from using certain likeness's and such of certain people. If it wasn't for my meds, I think my head would have exploded over not being able to photoshop something for that comment.

Lantac, you are the best friend I have now. Your answers make sense. You do not give me a hard time and understand my hardship. Thank you. mschleisner ,

I think you have me confused with someone else. I haven't commented on any of your work, here or on the actual work.

10 years ago I'd have begged to differ.. now..

After two car accidents (that were not my fault) and several surgeries including titainium plates you would feel old too.I still need back surgery, knee surgery and hip surgery, so 53 is old for me now. When you can't lay down to sleep for more than a few hours, and can't walk without a cane, you feel old. The scars don't look so good either. So age isn't always the determining factor. Sorry Po' I know someone thought my stuff looked good. The mind is a little slow nowdays too. But thanks all. Maxine
